Other Mods I Considered...

Mods I did not Consider...

With the mods I did on my '84, I estimate about 200-210 at the fly. I seemed to keep up with stock turbos. This car had nice throttle response and great handling. Made it very fun even though it lacked a bit in power. My kill list included several Maximas (early 90's even DOHC), Lasers, Talons, Eclipses, some V6 Mustangs and Camaros, a z31 Turbo (still wonder if his turbo was shot), some 4.0L Jeeps (what a joke), and the mass hoard of 4x4's around Provo, Utah. I've had fun with Z28's, 5.0's, and some bullet bikes. I can't beat these, but I sure give 'em a run in non-drag situations. A Z28 wasted me off the line in order to make a right turn in front of me. You should have seen his surprise when after the turn I was right on his butt!

One thing is for sure -- the car begged for races. Maybe it's because people know the ol' Z isn't the fastest thing on the road anymore and they thought they could beat me. Who knows, but people always wanted "to mess."

Once in the NA a bullet bike pulled up on the line with me. He had to brake pretty hard to stop since it was a red. He almost missed it -- did a little indo on his bike trying to stop. Since he was a in a hurry, I thought I'd have some fun. I reved it, knowing I would loose. The kid must've screwed up and put the bike in 2nd when the light turned green. I had 4 car lengths on him right off. He quickly caught up, but as soon as he hit 60 (speed limit was only 45 on this road) he stopped accelerating and low and behold, he has a red Z right next to him! It was great -- he seemed pissed.

On my 86 Turbo the extend of my mods are intake, exhaust, and boost controller. I have not removed any emissions devices and don't plan to. STAGE III is good enough for me on this car. It provides decent power over stock and good reliability all at a great price. I kept the adjustable supsension, but replaced the stock springs with some SS springs. We'll see how long the setup lasts --- could wear the shocks down quickly. Oh well, with 210,000 miles on the car, if I have to fix supsension sometime, I'm o.k. with it.
