Electric Fan Conversion
Short Explanation
DO THIS MOD!!!
Of all the mods I've done to my NA Z, this one was
had the most substantial power gains. The Z now has better response
and more pull than at high RPM. The car can hit 6k without a problem.
The noise of the fan clutch is gone, which is good for pinpointing
engine noises/problems. There are now 8" of extra space to
work at in front of the engine. Unbalanced fan clutches wear down
water pumps, which won't happen with the electric fan. A replacement
Fan Clutch will cost you $45. The fan clutch mechanism wears down,
leading to a 100rpm loss per/yr or more, and though most aftermarket
fan clutches have a lifetime warranty, you don't want to replace
this part all the time. The electric fan will cost you $108.90.
Two fan clutches and you'd already be there.
The electric fan will always give you maximum efficiency.
At 1000K or 5000K it's always at its peak performance. The fan
clutch doesn't do its job at low rpm, where you really need it,
cause it can only spin as fast at the engine.
This modification is beneficial for both Turbos and
NAs. Gains depend mostly upon the condition of the fan clutch.
If your fan clutch is new, you gain the most. If the fan clutch
is old, you gain less. Funny, if the fan clutch is good, it's
bad for HP, and if it's bad, its good for HP. You can see it's
the worst of both worlds, so get rid of it and go electric.
