Ok, well, I did the fan conversion and I have to say it has helped. The idle has smoothed out a bit and it revs better. Also, I feel that I have probably gained a few HP from the fan conversion, because it feels a bit quicker. Also, gas miledge has increased a little bit. Overall, I would have to say that this is a good, worthwhile mod to do for the relativly low price.

I put one on my 86na when I had it. Honestly,
I wasn't impressed. It seemed to cool better or at least as good
though than the stocker. I'll be trying it on my turbo eventually
mainly to get the engine compartment a little more uncluttered
and I'll let you know if it makes a diff this time.

Maybe I just don't get impressed very easily. I wasn't impressed
with the exhaust mod, 240sx TB, or electric fan. I guess after
upping boost, these little mods don't don't make much of a difference
in comparison. :)

Just did this over the weekend. It does seem to rev a little happier at the upper end. I'd rate this above the K&N filter but below the 2.25" exhaust and 240sx throttle body.
When doing this, it's a good idea to form some sort of shroud to prevent the air filter from getting too hot, or in my case, the aftermarket ignition from burning up.
I'd say that it's a decent mod if you've done the intake/exhaust and throttle body.
On a side note, I noticed no difference at all after ditching the Crane hi-6 ignition. I'd skip ignition upgrades on an na unless you're running nos or plan on running a turbo in there with high boost.

The electric fan conversion is great. One point in my rpm band that I wasn't real happy with was from 3000-4000 rpm. The conversion made a big difference there. My car is also running cooler. I took the bar off the top of the radiator which helped, and now it runs even cooler than that with the fan. For the amount of money for this mod, you can't pass it up.

Did mine about a year or so ago, here is my review.
Car runs too hot in the summer now, but it made room for my intercooler plumbing and the engine does seem to rev up slightly faster.
No discernible increase in performance, but the engine sounds smoother now (probably because there is no fan spinning up there and you can really hear the exhaust/intake now).
As a side note, I modified the belt-driven fan and reinstalled...car runs nice and cool again even with only half of the original fan in there and my electric fan sits idle most of the time now.
Overall: Don't waste your money on a single fan, go for the dual 10" or dual 12" setup like I may be doing in the spring if I keep this car.

I did the fan conversion last weekend. The only tricky part is
getting the 2 shrouds out (if you want them intact). Otherwise
this mod is very straight-foward. It takes about 3-4 hours depending
on how much of a perfectionist you are. And the gain is immediate.
When I first pulled out on to my nearest 4-lane street, I was
quite supprised at how quick it jumped out to 25mph in 1st gear.
Then on to 60mph in 2nd. Trust me, my Z never did that before.
The most power is noticed above 4k RPM. It is much smoother going
from gear-to-gear. This is all personal experience, so results
may vary. The biggest hang-up of the opperation was getting the
factory fan off. Those 14-year old low-quality bolts rounded off
pretty easily. Make sure you have a small 10mm ratchet. Good Luck,
it's worth it.

Well I did the fan thing about 5 years ago, and I remember taking
it out for the first "test" and being somewhat disappointed;
I saved money because I needed a new fan anyway, but there was
NO noticeable increase in power as far as I could tell. BTW, I
drive an 84' n/a coupe with, at the time of the fan mod, approximtely
180k miles on it.
