Why the Feedback
System Doesn't Work in Some Cases
When it comes to jerseys, LET THE JERSEY speak for itself, not the feedback. Afterall, the FB ratings are not always an indication of an honest seller.
The problems? Many fold:
Value Minded Consumers: Some buyers know what they are buying, so they would not leave negative feedback. I wish they would still disclaim that the seller is selling fakes. Go ahead and leave a positive, but the seller is calling it real, and you're supporting this by saying everything is as advertised, when in reality, they are fake. In fact, many of these buyers support the sellers of fakes because they feel the genuine jersey prices are unfair. I say, if you don't like the price, just don't buy it. Don't have to support counterfeits. Find an alternative. I find it totally ironic that these say they won't support the "crime" of high prices, but they will support a REAL CRIME. That's greed at it's best...getting your cake and eating it, too. They feel they got what they paid for, and accept the value returned, and feel it's just fine.
Ingorant Consumers: Buyers don't know what they are getting is fake, and still don't know once they have it. They buy because they see feedback and trust it. They leave positive feedback. If you were an ignorant consumer, don't feel bad. Though I encourage you to enlighten yourself, the one at fault is the business trying to rip you off. Their action is criminal, be they wise or not.
Ingorant Ignorant Consumers:For the buyers that buy and DO figure out they are fake, some just decide it's still worth the price, so they leave positive feedback and become like the #1 reason buyers above.
Retaliatory
Feedback - The sellers greatest eBAY asset: Some buyers fear retaliatory feedback. And yes, ALMOST EVERY SELLER ON EBAY now
has the unwritten policy that they will not leave
feedback until it is given. Some even have it written
right there in the listing. What a joke. How many times
have you read, "We leave feedback for all paying
buyers. Just leave us positive feedback and our system
will automatically leave it for you." They have
turned feedback into a game instead of a system to be
relied on. So, in their fear, buyers that feel cheated
either don't leave feedback or leave a positive to
neutral, knowing what will follow. For those that brave
to tell the truth, these unscrupulous thieves (the
sellers) go on RUINING legitimate feedback of trustworthy
eBAY members while taking only a small ding on their
voluminous ratings.
Retaliatory feedback and mutually withdrawn ratings
should be examined before you make your purchase. Sellers
often have a history of very rude behavoir toward the
very people that keep them in business. Leaving feedback
should be about the sale, NOT ABOUT WHAT someone leaves
for you, or the fact that you don't like that they got
mad at you. Most retaliatory feedback does NOT EVEN
ADDRESS the feedback received. They are pointless, unfair
attempts to belittle the buyer. They never prove
innocence, instead, they display childish personality.
As a seller myself, I know buyers can sometimes have
unreasonable expectations. However, they are few compared
to the majority. And in this case, the buyer has EVERY
RIGHT to be disgusted by the seller since they are
intentionally misleading the unknowing buyer into a sale.
eBAY has been provided several great ways to solve this
problem, but continues to argue that their feedback
system as it is, provides the best opportunity for honest
feedback. The system almost completely protects the
seller. Since eBAY owns PayPal, why not require the
seller to leave feedback on sales before the buyer on all
items paid for through PayPal? Makes perfect sense. The
buyer fulfills his/her contract by paying for the item.
There is no further obligation. The seller still has a
lot to do, could mess up, or could be falsely
advertising. They should not protect themselves from poor
feedback unfairly.
EXAMPLE of RETALIATORY FEEDBACK:
Neutral Feedback left for a Seller: Jersey is not

Negative Retaliation left to buyer: Buyer made false claims as to Authenticity of
jersey. New to E_BAY of course
This seller went the extra mile to get back as his paying buyer (yeah, the guy that keeps him in business). Left negative in return for a neutral. Made a demeaning comment about buyer. DID address the issue the buyer commented about, but failed to say anything remotely positive as the buyer did. Did not even give credit for quick payment. The seller has learned to make his buyers the enemy when they should be a friend. I admit that as a seller, I sometimes jump to conclusions about buyers. It takes a little positive thought to turn those feelings around and realize being reasonable is just part of keeping customers happy. Feedback should not be about giving feedback based on what you received. Seller should comment about performance of CONTRACT by buyer. If buyer paid immediately, there should be no reason to leave other than positive. If the seller was TRULY selling authentics, why not leave a positive in return saying, "THANKS - fast payment. However, our jerseys ARE authentic." This shows the seller understands that the buyer has completed their part of the contract, but still defends their position. Of course, the sad things is, he'd be lying if he said they are authentic.
Liberal Return Policy: Another type of buyer finds out they are fake and takes advantage of liberal return policy. They probably feel like they didn't lose anything, so they either leave no feedback or a positive saying the seller refunded the purchase. In reality, the seller has still deceived the buyer, wasted their time, and often gets away with making $10 on the sale anyway because of inflated, non-refundable shipping charges. Imagine how many buyers don't return items claiming $20-$30 to ship from Indonesia, China, or Korea. Though those sellers are willing to accept your return, you don't want to be out that much. And since they allow you to return, you may feel you have no right to leave negative feedback.
If I'm not "out", who cares: Some buyers turn into sellers! After getting ripped off on a fake, the buyer that truly wants an authentic product may justify him/herself into reselling the fake they just received. Afterall, if eBAY allows one guy to sell it, why shouldn't they? I have a feeling some of these fakes gets passed on dozens of times before finally settling in the home of either an ignorant jersey buyer or an honest person that would not resell a counterfeit item. Since the buyer has a way to get their money back, no harm no foul, and again, the feedback system does nothing because there is no buyer scorn. Though, why do some people not value their time and efforts.
eBAY doesn't care: They say they do, but they do not spend a dime trying to get rid of this stuff. I'm sure they spend plenty of money for legal defense, but as far as actively pursuing the end of counterfeits sales? It's not in their interest right now. Not happening. They rely on the buyer or companies to stop these listing. And usually, they balk and get into bureaucracy if it's just a few whining voices. One day the voices will have to be heard, and it will have huge consequence on eBAY's bottom line. This will likely result in the shifting of loss to raise fees on eBAY, hurting the sellers, and then ultimately the buyers. You see that like the Devil these lures look great and will sustain for a time, but once the Devil has a need, they turn on you. Sellers turn on Buyers. eBAY will turn on it's sellers. But not until the last grain of corn gets in the silo.
Good operation not equal to honest business: Not to discredit these guys entirely. Anyone that can sell hundreds of items on eBAY without getting a ton of negative feedback IS doing something right. They generally must have a great shipping department and use reliable methods. As a seller, we have people that get ticked when a set of golf clubs doesn't arrive in exactly five days from purchase when they live 3,000 miles away. It's tough to maintain high feedback, though using RETALIATION seems to be the key for dishonest sellers. Often, honest businesses that don't operate perfectly on eBAY get beat up worse than dishonest sellers that get things done right.
I'm not advertising them as "REEBOK": Some sellers feel it's perfectly honest to sell fakes as long as they don't use the words REEBOK or AUTHENTIC to sell them. They might use words like RBK or AUTHENTIC "STYLE" instead. Some may even make efforts to hide logos. Well, they are still selling counterfeits. Of course, the more you hide, the more obvious you become. If someone blatantly advertised "FAKE REEBOK JERSEY - COUNTERFEIT", not only would they not sell them much, they would get suspended and possibly prosecuted. The funny thing is, there are other sellers that actually do take very clear and wonderful pictures of their fakes, which completely disclose them to the knowing eye. Yet, they STILL maintain great feedback, almost as if all their buyers know they are fakes, or the buyers decide the effort to disclose was sufficient.
The
scorn customer: Last but
not least, we have the brave customer. This is the one
that intends to buy a real jersey, gets a fake, and
without hesitation, leaves negative feedback. GOOD FOR
YOU! I feel sorry for you that you will get it in return,
but you have done something very notable. But guess what?
It's just a blip on the screen. Several sellers have
dealt just fine with a few comments like "guy sells
fakes, stay away." They get buried quickly by the
hundreds of positive feedback caused by the reasons
above. Though you have done a great thing, we can only
hope others will actually read comments and get a clue.
Many scorn customers convert and allow the seller to
mutually withdraw feedback after the seller showers them
with extras, apologies, or a full refund.
For those scorn customers that don't know, use the
feedback system tools to further emphasize your point.
You can leave FOLLOWUP feedback for your seller after
they post a response, and you can also leave a REPLY to
feedback they leave for you. Make sure you stay calm and
explain your case. If you want to get really tricky in
your own feedback, you can use a reply from another
feedback above or below the one in question to REPLY a
second time. Just say (REFER TO ABOVE [or below]) and add
a short comment. That way you can basically reply again
if they leave a followup to discredit you. DO NOT use
this method unfairly. As your seller should be honest,
you should be honest. Don't take advantage of this tactic
when you are not justified in doing so.
So, all that said, do your homework. Find out who is legitimate and who is not, because eBAY ain't gonna do it for you, and basically, neither are the customers. The few brave souls that challenge these sellers are doing you a great service. They have no reason to want to destroy these sellers reputations. My basic feeling is that if one customer vividely states the item sold is a fake, there is much reason to have concern. As a seller and buyer, understanding many of the complications of the business, I can tell you that a bit of feedback about poor customer service is a lot less important than comments about fraud and fakes. Sometimes buyers expect miracles. But buyers should ALWAYS expect to get what was advertised, and when that doesn't happen, or doesn't get fixed properly, RED FLAGS should pop up like crazy.
AS A FINAL NOTE -- negative and neutral feedback don't always mean a seller is dishonest! Read how a seller responds to feedback -- are they retaliatory or reasonable? Do they admit mistakes and resolve? Sometimes buyers leave followup to negative feedback that shows the seller has acted appropriately. And withdrawals can be trusted when other negatives and neutrals appear to have been dealt with appropriately. So, there is still reason for trust on eBAY, just not with sellers of counterfeit items. Customer service issues are one thing. Those can be resolved. Selling illegal items is entirely another -- these guys CAN'T send you a genuine Reebok item, and it was NEVER their intention to do so, even if it got to you in a couple days.
IF YOU WANT TO SORT THROUGH the CRAP among all the POSITIVE FEEDBACK, go to this site and enter the USER NAME of the SELLER. It sorts through all the FB and shows you the "slime". Customer service is one thing, while flat out misrepresenting is another! If you see tons of negatives saying FAKE FAKE FAKE, you've found a winner ;) eBAY used to have a function that let you sort NEGATIVE FEEDBACK only -- for some reason, they got rid of it. It is true that sometimes the negative feedback is all that is focused on, but when you are trying to find out if someone is selling counterfeit items, it IS important to see how many things are coming up as fakes, though the price along should be enough to tell you when they are doing any considerable volume.
COUNTERFEIT SELLERS EXPOSED!
Here are some advertisting tactics people use on eBAY. They will try to fool you in many ways. MOSTLY, they rely on their feedback and fast shipping as proof that they are legitimate. Each of these sellers I can personally attest are selling FAKE CHARGER jerseys. This is BY NO MEANS an all inclusive list. I add them in as I see them. In fact, I added all these just by looking through the first couple pages using "CHARGERS JERSEY" in a title only search. I made it to 12 hours remaining! Only 9 1/2 days left to go ;)
Many simply advertise as Authentic Reebok jerseys, while others go further. I'm only trying to provide a handful of POWERSELLERS that sell fakes, so you get a clue of how rampant this problem is. NEVER FORGET -- selling counterfeit items IS ILLEGAL. And as far as I know, OWNING them, though not as punishable, is ALSO ILLEGAL. Giving them away is ILLEGAL. Bringing them in from another country IS ILLEGAL.
I have added in the general price range/format of their auction listings. Remember, these jerseys WHOLESALE at @ $140 a piece from Reebok. Not sure what a closeout price would be, but I'm guessing not $40. An inventory of just 100 jerseys would be worth $14,000 in that case, just your typical basement business, right? Note that most sellers don't tell you what kind of shipping they will use. They usually charge (from U.S.) about $10 for one jersey, sometimes combine if you buy more. Shipping First Class mail (which most probably do) cost about $2, so they are capping another $8 per shirt on the shipping. Then, if you try to return, most will not refund that, so they win no matter what.

If you are going to sell fakes, AT LEAST do it like this guy. No tags, no logos. Just a fake "throwback", often known as PC's (Player of the Century) jerseys. No Reebok advertising. HOWEVER, don't fool yourself. These are still COUNTERFEIT jerseys because of the copy of design. They are too similar. You have to make a product substantially different for it to not be counterfeit. If you try to use dollar bills that are close, but not exact, you still get in trouble. But hey, this is at least a step away from shamelessness. |

Only problem with believing them is that they state word for word what the blue tag reads, but when a buyer asked about where it was made (Korea) they said they couldn't find out because the item is sealed in package. It's possible they flipped the tag without opening the bag. I emailed them and let them know this could be a fake item from a customer.
